Position Summary

We are seeking anEngineer III – Opto-Mechanicalto join a growing R&D team in Hyderabad supporting sustaining engineering, VAVE, and lifecycle management for theKingFisher sample preparation systemsandDetection instruments.

In this role, you will be akey individual contributor, owning opto-mechanical subsystems and supporting the design, integration, and performance of optical and mechanical components within instrument platforms. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues, improve system performance, and contribute to cost optimization and lifecycle management efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Opto-Mechanical Design & Development

  • Design, develop, and supportopto-mechanical assemblies, including optical mounts, alignment features, housings, and precision mechanical components.

  • Ownsubsystems or modules, including CAD modeling, detailing, and documentation.

  • Supportoptical alignment, tolerance analysis, and performance optimizationof integrated systems.

  • Collaborate onselection and integration of optical components(e.g., lenses, filters, detectors, light sources).

Sustaining Engineering & Lifecycle Support

  • Execute sustaining activities includingdesign updates, ECO implementation, and component obsolescence management.

  • Performroot cause analysisof optical and mechanical performance issues and implement corrective actions.

  • Supporttesting, validation, and calibrationof opto-mechanical systems.

Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE)

  • Identify and implementcost reduction opportunitieswithin opto-mechanical designs and components.

  • Evaluatealternative materials, components, and suppliersin collaboration with senior engineers.

  • Supportdesign for manufacturability and scalabilityof opto-mechanical assemblies.

System Integration & Technical Contribution

  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, firmware, and assay teams to supportsystem integration and troubleshooting.

  • Contribute tosystem requirements, interface definitions, and verification activities.

  • Participate indesign reviews and technical discussions, providing data-driven input.

Global & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work withglobal R&D teams (Finland, US, Singapore)to support knowledge transfer and ongoing product support.

  • Partner withmanufacturing, quality, service, and sourcingto resolve issues and improve product performance.

  • Collaborate withBusiness Unit Product Managementto support execution aligned with product priorities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience inopto-mechanical or precision mechanical engineering.

  • Experience withCAD tools and mechanical design principles.

  • Familiarity withoptical systems, alignment techniques, and tolerance analysis.

  • Strong skills introubleshooting, root cause analysis, and hands-on problem solving.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience withlife sciences or analytical instrumentation(e.g., optical detection systems, qPCR).

  • Experience withoptical components and systems(lenses, filters, detectors, illumination).

  • Experience withDFM/DFA, cost optimization, and VAVE initiatives.

  • Familiarity withoptical simulation or analysis tools.

  • Exposure toregulated product development environments.

Impact

  • Owns and deliversopto-mechanical subsystem solutions.

  • Drives execution ofdesign updates, issue resolution, and validation activities.

  • Contributes tooptical performance, system reliability, and cost improvements.

  • Supports the development ofR&D capability in Hyderabad.
